We’ve been doing this for almost four years. I signed on in November of 2014 and we opened the doors on March 1, 2015. Since then I’ve developed 12 franchise teams. I saw this as an opportunity to change the lives of the people that would normally just be employed as cleaners. Many didn’t have the skills to build a business but I saw that I could lead them in that process and help change their economic situations.
What is your favorite part of your career in home cleaning?
Similar to the above, my favorite part has been helping people start and develop successful businesses. We are coaching franchise owners on running their own business under the NetMaidz brand and giving them the tools to help them grow such as securing an LLC, learning taxes etc.
What challenges have you faced in your business? How have you overcome them?
It’s always a challenge to find good hires for the business. We make sure to try various hiring resources such as Craigslist, referrals, Facebook ads and more. However, once we do find great people, we can help them succeed and eventually take them to the next level of owning their own business.
Sarah [Amenify employee] listed a request on HomeAdvisor for a clean that needed to be done for Amenify and we responded to it which sparked the conversation. It helped us realize what Amenify was and the opportunity it presented our company to work with apartment homes and residences.
Amenify has provided ongoing cleaning opportunities. This has helped us to be more efficient since we’re completing numerous cleans in the same building and around the same times so that helps keeps the cost down for both our business and our clients. We’re just getting started, but Amenify has provided volume for our business already!
Do you have any easy cleaning or organization tips for Amenify residents?
If you take Dawn dishwashing liquid and mix it with hot water, you can use it to clean off your kitchen cabinets. This mixture will take all the grease off the cabinets around the stove or those that are used and touched frequently.
What philanthropic efforts do you coordinate through NetMaidz? How do you get involved in the local Denver community?
My wife died of breast cancer 11 years ago which inspired us to start cleaning homes for people that are undergoing chemo treatment. We offer them free home cleanings to help make things easier for them at home. This is run through our website cleaningforareason.org.
Overall, I’m a believer that you need to give back to your community. I am on the board at our local school for children with learning disabilities. I’m also on the board of Brother’s Redevelopment which runs over 600 low-income senior living communities. I also organize mini-reunions for my West Point class.
What free time? Recently I went on a week trip back to Italy – it’d been years since I’d been there. I’ve also been to San Antonio and Nashville for various school reunions as well as a High School reunion in New Jersey. If I’m not working or getting involved in our community, I’m traveling!
What path do you think your career would’ve taken if you didn’t start NetMaidz?
I’ve worked in finance and my previous job was with a hedge fund. I was also the only person from my family to go to the military (I’m one of seven kids). However, I see this current business as my opportunity to put my money where my mouth is and change people’s economic situations in life. I believe that is where God wants me to be.
What is your dream travel destination?
I don’t have a dream destination, per se, but we have plans to go to Israel around Christmas next year. Costa Rica is also on the list and I have a classmate’s son in Indonesia that I want to visit.
What’s your favorite food or local restaurant?
That’s Rico’s! They’re on Broadway and Old Hampton in Denver. They’re a small family-run Italian restaurant. If you like New York Style pizza you can find good pizza there. It’s very affordable. They’ve got a $3 meatball or sausage sub. If you haven’t tried it – you should!
